Gonga – Concrescence (Tonehenge)
After a long hiatus, Gonga return with their first album as a power trio minus vocalist. Like Karma To Burn and The Fucking Champs, they pay homage to the almighty riff without vocals and seem none the worse for it. A ten minute opening track lays down the gauntlet, followed by wave after wave of rhythmic downtune-age.
One interpretation of the title is something bigger than its constituent parts and Gonga have certainly created that.
Definitely worth hunting down their RSD special cover of Black Sabbath’s “ Black Sabbath” featuring Beth Gibbons of Portishead on vocals.
