Coves – Peel (1965 Records)

We’ve been very happy to watch the rise of Coves since they first came to us some years back. After their debut album Soft Friday turned heads with its mixture of John Ridgard’s bittersweet tremolo-baiting guitars and Beck Wood’s bewitching vocals, they return with a new album that radiates maturity. The bigger sound on Peel still retains the blustery, Autumnal allure they first appeared with, but this time around it’s strapped with confidence and pop nous to no doubt win even more listeners over to their noirish world.
